Using PayPal As Your Payment Processor

March 16, 2008 By: Douglas Category: Paypal No Comments →

It has been a couple of weeks now since I have posted anything here. I have been working on a campaign that involves viral marketing but I will talk about that in another post. If you are experienced with using PayPal as your payment processor for multiple sites this post will not benefit you. If you are like me and  are planning to have multiple sites this will help you avoid some of the mistakes I made initially while using PayPal as your payment processor.

The first thing you need to know is that you have to have a different account for each project that you undertake. If you already have a paypal account for ebay and want to use ebay for your website you will have to create another paypal account. Creating an account is free but to do so you must first create another email address. I suggest that you use part or all of the business or product name you plan to promote. For examples WidgetsGalore@FirstLove.com. Please don’t click the link. It does not work.

Once you have your email account set up simply go to PayPal and sign up for a new account. Choose premier as this will allow you to accept credit cards. It is free as well. You can download this instruction guide which I got from PayPal to learn how to set up your product or products for sale. It is a bit boring but read it all before proceeding to set up your product or products. The technical skill required depends on what you what to do and how much security for your products you want to have. The good thing about Paypal is that a newbie can have everything set up within a few hours.

I can not honestly give you a comparison between having a merchant account and a PayPal account. I don’t have any merchant accounts. So far Paypal has been able to satisfy my needs. I hope this has helped. Set up your email first and then read the instruction guide before signing up with Paypal and your set up should proceed without a hitch.
